The Endowment Fund was established in 1981 to provide sustainable funding to support the components of The Canadian Scottish Regimental Family and their activities. Since then, the fund has provided thousands of dollars to assist in the purchase of uniforms, accoutrements, and band instruments; maintenance and upkeep of regimental memorials and artifacts; support of youth/cadet and veteran’s recognition programmes; and other support for serving soldiers and veterans.
All funds donated to the Endowment Fund are deposited in accounts generating interest or dividends, and only the income earned is dispersed. Hence, donations continue to generate income and fund activities in perpetuity. Fund allocation is determined by an independent Allocation Committee governed by strict Terms of Reference, thus ensuring that funds are used appropriately. Volunteers administer and operate the fund, so operational costs are near zero.
Currently, the fund can provide approximately 40% of the Regimental Family’s annual expenditures. Our vision is to increase the fund to the level where its annual income can meet all Regimental Family funding needs and eliminate the Regimental Family’s reliance on frequent fund-raising campaigns.
Help us help the components and individuals of the Regimental Family of The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s). Any gift will make a difference, no matter how large or small.
How to Give:
You can donate now by: (1) sending a cheque, payable to The Canadian Scottish Regiment Endowment Fund to the Treasurer, CSR Endowment Fund, 4746 Beaver Rd., Victorias, BC.V9E 2I7; (2) Electronic bank transfer to the email address cscotrendowment@gmail.com; or (3) Online at the link below.
Your gift to the fund can be one-time, monthly, made by cheque, online or in person. Donations can be in cash, property, or securities. The Fund holds charitable status, so all donors will receive a tax receipt that can be useful with personal or estate tax returns. Gifts made in a will or estate may provide tax benefits now, though the funds will not be available until sometime in the future. Your gift can be made in honour, memory, or celebration of a person or event, or anonymously if that is your preference.
The Book of Memory (BoM) was established in 1981 by The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) Regimental Board of Trustees [CScotR Trustees] and The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) Regimental Association [CScotR RA] to honour the memory, and record the service, of deceased former member of the Regiment and to act as a fundraising mechanism for an Endowment Fund that would provide ongoing financial support for the good and welfare of the Regimental Family. To be eligible for entry into the Book of Memory, an individual must have served with The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) or one of the units it perpetuates. In 2023, an Annex to the Book of Memory was created to similarly honour and remember those non-serving members of the Regimental Family whose loyalty and support have contributed much to the Regiment's well-being, cohesion, and reputation.
Entry into the BoM is usually accomplished by a sponsor nominating an eligible deceased person and accompanied by a donation to the Endowment Fund. Living individuals can also self-prenominate themselves for entry when they die. Sometimes, sponsors make donations to the Endowment Fund and have the EF committee select an eligible person for entry.
Once a nomination is accepted, the nominee’s service record is reviewed and verified. Depending on the nominated individual, this process can be simple or very complex. Service records for World War I personnel and World War II dead are held by the Library of Archives Canada (LAC), are available online, and can be accessed by any member of the public. Records of still-serving soldiers are held at the National Defence Headquarters, and only the named individual can access their service records. All other service records are held at LAC. Again, a living individual can access their record. Still, all other records are subject to federal privacy legislation and can only be accessed under the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPP) Act. In practical terms, this means that access to the deceased person's records must be made by their next of kin, providing proof of relationship and death. Once access to the personnel file is gained, a detailed examination of its contents is conducted so that an accurate and complete summation of the person’s service record can be developed and written. Depending on the soldier’s length type of service, and kind of nomination, this can take anywhere from eight to forty hours. For example, a self-pre-nomination where the service record has been provided while the individual is living can be updated and completed quickly. In contrast, the service record of a career soldier who may have served in several units, at numerous locations and operation deployments will take much longer. This service record summation will form the basis of the entry into the BoM.
All processes and procedures for the nomination of non-serving Regimental Family members are the same, except that verification of service and eligibility will rely on the recommendation of the current leadership of the Regimental Family element with which the nominee served subject to final approval of the Endowment Fund Committee. The Book of Memory currently has more than 1600 entries in several volumes. It is kept in the Regimental Museum of the Canadian Scottish Regiment located in the Bay Street Armory in Victoria, BC.
The Book of Memory honours and records the service of deceased former members of The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary’s) and those Regiments it perpetuates. Individuals can nominate identified deceased members or pre-nominate living members for inclusion on their demise. Funds raised through the Book of Memory are deposited in an Endowment Fund, and only the interest generated is used to support all constituent parts of the Regimental Family. Since 2023, an Annex to the Book of Memory similarly honours and remembers deceased non-serving members of the Regimental Family.
For those who wish to support the Regimental Family by sponsoring a soldier into the Book of Memory but have no particular soldier to name can select and sponsor a soldier from our Canadian Scottish Remembers list or have the Endowment Fund Committee do so on their behalf.
Sponsors will receive a Record of Entry Certificate with the sponsored soldier’s details, particulars of service, and where they are buried and memorialized. A suggested minimum donation of $50.00 will secure sponsorship. Some sponsors may wish to make their donation perpetual annually, for example, on the anniversary of the soldier’s death, Remembrance Day, or through a monthly allocation. This can be accomplished through Canadahelps.org. As the Endowment Fund holds charitable status, all donors will automatically receive annual tax receipts that can be useful with personal or estate tax exemptions.

The Endowment Fund is seeking individuals to join its Bold 100 Project ranks.
The Endowment Fund currently has approximately $400,000, which generates an annual income of about $10,000 per annum, which is provided to the elements of the Regimental Family to aid in their work for the good and welfare of the Regimental Family and its members. While significant, this sum represents approximately 40% of actual Regimental Family funding needs, resulting in several ad hoc and often competing fundraising efforts throughout the year. The Endowment Fund Committee aims to bring the Endowment Fund’s principal to $1,000,000 by 2030. This could generate an income of between $20,000 - $40,000 per year and will consequently fund most Regimental Family activities, thus making constant fundraising initiatives unnecessary. Importantly, as this income is from earned interest and dividends on the principal, which is never touched, this annual income will continue perpetually.
To help us achieve our $1,000,000 goal, we are seeking one hundred (100) bold individuals who will commit to donating just $50 per month for five years. This will generate in excess of $300,000 by 2030 and greatly assist in achieving our goal.
Individuals joining the Bold 100 will receive formal recognition, a certificate and member-identifying pin, a free subscription to the CanScot Newsletter, Regimental Association membership, and a standing invitation to all donor recognition events.
This program has been created in response to comments by many Regimental Family members who have been considering end-of-life legacy gifts to the Regiment through the Endowment Fund but wish to have a more immediate and direct impact.
Joining the Bold 100 is as simple as going online to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-c-s-r-trustees, making your donation, and specifying “CSR Bold 100” in the comments box.
The treasurer of the Endowment Fund will automatically be advised of your donation and enrollment to The Bold 100.
As the Endowment Fund holds charitable status, all donors will automatically receive annual tax receipts that can be useful with personal or estate tax exemptions.
Finally, we recognize that personal circumstances can change, so donors can leave the programme anytime if circumstances require it.

A legacy gift is a charitable donation that can be set up during the donor’s lifetime but will be available sometime in the future. These future gifts can take many forms. No great wealth is required to give, just a willingness to plan.
A legacy gift in your will can be generous, powerful and simple. It allows you to leave a larger gift than may be possible during your lifetime. In some cases, you may be able to receive an immediate tax benefit.
A gift in your will to the Endowment Fund means your generosity can provide vital support to the Regiment now and into the future and help ensure the vitality of the Regimental Family of tomorrow.
Donations to the Endowment Fund are invested and only the income earned in dispersed.
We commit that:
1. We will invest your gift wisely.
2. We will carry out your wishes. We ensure your legacy is always invested wisely and directed to the best and most effective projects and areas you care most about.
3. We will ensure that your gift has a lasting impact. No matter what your interest we will ensure your legacy gift always makes a real difference.
4. We will honour your generosity. There is great power in charitable giving through an endowment fund. It's a reflection of your values, and a statement to future generations about your foresight, concern, imagination and vision. We'll work with you to share your story and inspire others to make a difference— or, if you prefer, your anonymity will be respected.
